Pierre Ozer has a doctorate in geographical sciences from ULiège (2000). He has worked for various institutions such as the Università degli Studi di Genova (Genoa, Italy), the University of Luxembourg, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO, Rome) and the Luxembourg University Foundation. Passionate about landscapes and other people in all their richness and diversity, his numerous projects have introduced him to various regions of the globe, from Latin America to Asia, including Africa where he currently concentrates most of his research. In 2009, he was elected a full member of the Royal Academy of Overseas Sciences in Brussels. He led the Belgian scientific delegation to the United Nations international negotiations on the fight against desertification (COP-9 UNCCD, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2009). Climatologist specializing in desertification processes, in the management of natural disasters, in the consequences of environmental changes on public health and in adaptation strategies to climate change, Pierre Ozer teaches these subjects in five faculties of the University of Liège and at the Università degli Studi di Genova (Italy). He coordinates, in partnership with the University of Namur, the Specialization Master in Risk and Disaster Management in the Anthropocene Era and is scientific coordinator of the Hugo Observatory dedicated to the study of environmental migrations that he founded it in 2016 with François Gemenne and Caroline Zickgraf. He is the author of five books and nearly 400 scientific and “general public” publications in these fields.
